Did you know Vagrant Story (PS1 game) and Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1 game) took place in the same universe?! I figured you did. I didn’t know that until years after I had played them both.
A little timeline information:
-I played Vagrant Story in 2000. The events of the game take place in a land called ‘Ivalice’.
-I played Final Fantasy XII in 2006. The events of the game take place in a land called ‘Ivalice’.
-I played Final Fantasy Tactics Advance in 2003. The events of the game take place in a land called ‘Ivalice’.
-I played Final Fantasy Tactics-War of the Lions in 2010. The events of the game take place in a land called ‘Ivalice’.
I got nostalgic for Vagrant Story some time around 2011. As I played, I began to realize that they were all connected to the same universe.
The realization came when I (finally) noticed that the art seemed to be by the same person. I done some incredibly difficult research (some call it ‘Google-ing’) and found out the art director for nearly all of them was Hiroshi Minagawa. Ah! There’s the visual similarity! Coupled with the fact that each of their instruction booklets said they take place in ‘Ivalice’, I had a conspiracy theory going.
I took this information bomb to my gaming friends. They were nice about it, but they were unimpressed. They figured it out back in the year 2000, when they played Vagrant Story.
This is not a tale of woe, dear friends! This is a tale of triumph! Though it may have taken me (literally) 11 years to figure this out, I figured it out on my own. No one may take that ‘Ah-ha!’ moment away from me.
I’m sorry to leave you all, now, but I need to do research on my newest project; I hypothesize that ‘The legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker’ and ‘The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ may share a similar universe... more research is needed...
